Meet Reverend Michael Evans, Jr.

Minister of Adult Discipleship

Rev. Michael Evans, Jr., as Minister of Adult Discipleship, provides leadership oversight to our adult ministries not reporting directly to the Pastor or Executive Minister, including but not limited to the following areas:

• Adult Sunday School, a/k/a Christian Education on Sunday Morning

• D-Groups

• Financial Ministry

• Health & Wellness Ministry

• Married Couples Ministry

• Men’s Ministry

• New Members Orientation

• Senior Adults/Platinum Plus Ministry

• S.H.A.P.E. Ministry

• Women’s Enrichment Ministry

In 2017 and 2020, Rev. Evans was licensed and ordained as a Baptist minister, respectively, by the Bethlehem Baptist Church, Mansfield, Texas, where his father has been the pastor (for more than 30 years) and was elected in 2020 as the first African American Mayor of Mansfield in its 131-year history. He has ministered through teaching, preaching, and coordinating mission outreach efforts, and since joining David Chapel in 2022, he has served the Young Adults and Men’s Ministries and as an associate minister.

He currently works as a 6th- 8th-grade Avid Excel Teacher at Lively Middle School (AISD). He formerly worked for the Baptist General Convention of Texas as the Director of Public Policy (Christian Life Commission) and Director of Special Projects. He has served as a ministry intern and associate minister in Trenton, New Jersey; Houston, and Mansfield, Texas; and as a Site Director for the Princeton Young Achievers (Little Brooks School, New Jersey). He has also worked as an educator and teacher in Crowley and Arlington, Texas, and on the staff of a Fort Worth, Texas congressman.

He is a 2015 graduate of Morehouse College (B.A., political science, cum laude) and a 2020 graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity). He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth). He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Since 2021, he has been married to Rev. Jade D. Evans, a David Chapel associate minister, Assistant Director of Congregational Innovation at the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. student/Graduate Student Fellow in Religion at the University of Texas at Austin. They are expecting their first child.
